Traits of dominant plant species drive normalized difference vegetation index in grasslands globally

چکیده

Aim Theoretical, experimental and observational studies have shown that biodiversity–ecosystem functioning (BEF) relationships are influenced by functional community structure through two mutually non-exclusive mechanisms: (1) the dominance effect (which relates to traits of dominant species); (2) niche partitioning [which diversity (FD)]. Although both mechanisms been studied in plant communities experiments at small spatial extents, it remains unclear whether evidence from small-extent case translates into a generalizable macroecological pattern. Here, we evaluate effects simultaneously grassland systems world-wide. Location Two thousand nine hundred forty-one plots globally. Time period 2000–2014. Major taxa Vascular plants. Methods We obtained plot-based data on global vegetation plot database “sPlot”, which combines species composition with trait “TRY” database. used community-weighted mean (CWM) FD for 18 ecologically relevant traits. As an indicator primary productivity, extracted satellite-derived normalized difference index (NDVI) MODIS. Using generalized additive models deviation partitioning, estimated contributions CWM variation annual maximum NDVI, while controlling climatic variables structure. Results Grassland dominated relatively tall acquisitive had higher NDVI values, suggesting prevalence BEF relationships. found no support analysed, because remained unaffected FD. Most predictive power was shared predictors coordinates. This highlights importance assembly processes natural communities. Main conclusions Our analysis provides empirical patterns productivity linked resource economics size species. is important test hypotheses underlying scale.

Mapping and Attributing Normalized Difference Vegetation Index Trends for Nepal

Global change affects vegetation cover and processes through multiple pathways. Long 1 time series of surface land surface properties derived from satellite remote sensing give unique 2 abilities to observe these changes, particularly in areas with complex topography and limited research 3 infrastructure. Here, we focus on Nepal, a biodiversity hotspot where vegetation productivity is 4 limited...

Comparison of space-based microwave polarization difference index and normalized difference vegetation index for crop growth monitoring

This paper reports the passive microwave radiometry application for regional assessment of crop growth in India. Brightness temperature (TB) of various vegetation classes observed at 37 GHz using special sensor microwave imager (SSMI) data. during Kharif season in 1 999 in India are analyzed. Vertical as well as hQrizontal polarization brightness temperature is used to derive microwave polariza...

Climate-related vegetation characteristics derived from Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) leaf area index and normalized difference vegetation index

[1] MODIS-based leaf area index (LAI) and normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) are used to examine detailed information regarding actual growing season and total annual production for various regions. Overall, MODIS LAI has larger variability and demonstrates more information regarding the evolution and structure of the seasonal vegetation characteristics. In contrast, the NDVI saturat...

In-Season Prediction of Corn Grain Yield Potential Using Normalized Difference Vegetation Index

Drastic increases in the cost of N fertilizer and increased public scrutiny have encouraged development and implementation of improved N management practices. This study evaluated the relationship between corn (Zea mays L.) grain yield and early season normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) sensor readings using the GreenSeeker sensor. The relationships between grain yield and several pr...
